The countryside with some 70 estates that are freely accesible to visitors offers a great abundance of space and rest. Therefore, it is a true paradise for tourist and other holiday-makers, in particular for lovers of nature.
In Winterswijk you will also find large erratic boulders that have been transported here from South Sweden during the last glacial period. The largest boulder as heavy as 43,300 kg.-can be seen next to the Town Hall in the centre of Winterswijk.
Winterswijk has the longest network of cycle paths in the Netherlands. At the Tourist Information Office "VVV" several maps with bicycle and pedestrian route are available. They will lead you to the most beautiful spots of the eastern part of the "Achterhoek".
In and around Winterswijk you will find many things worth seeing such as old farms, water mills, flour mills and halftimbered houses.

- Take the A18 motorway in the direction of Doetinchem and Varsseveld; after which you follow the signs for Winterswijk.
- At the 1st roundabout go straight ahead.
- Follow the road until you get to the 2nd roundabout.
- From there, just follow the signs for Centrum and VVV.
- When you reach the Markt you will see the Hampshire & Restaurant Stad Munster on your left hand side
From Apeldoorn and Zutphen:
- Take the road in the direction of Ruurlo; after which you follow the signs for Winterswijk.
- Follow directions as above.
